Aims of the Science Area of Learning
- For Science to be an exciting and inspiring experience for our students.
- To offer an experience of Science that will meet the varied needs of all students at HLCC.
- To establish a climate where students can work, succeed and develop scientifically-enquiring minds to meet the needs of the 21st Century.
- To develop an understanding of scientific knowledge, encouraging students to apply this knowledge to different situations in everyday life.
- To develop processes and skills that are relevant to the study and practice of Science.
- To ensure the assessment objectives measure progress, regardless of innate ability.
- To encourage students at HLC to continue studying Science beyond GCSE.
Accommodation
The Science Faculty consists of four main school laboratories, two Post-16 laboratories and an audio-visual room. The laboratories are stocked with general basic apparatus, and more specialist equipment such as data logging equipment, electronic balances and data projectors. In addition a computer suite has been installed in the Science open area for use during Science lessons
