“fantastic space and outstanding work of a high quality” visitor, 22/1/09

Hind Leys is now the proud owner of the largest gallery in Charnwood.  The official opening of ‘the gallery’ took place on Friday 8th January with special guest Rachel Phelps from Leicestershire Arts cutting the ribbon.  The first exhibition was ‘Hind Leys Talent 2008’ and featured a collection of work from students studying at Hind Leys during 2008.  This included painting, drawing, photography, creative writing, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media creations.

A huge number of students, parents and specially invited guests attended the opening which was held before the colleges annual Awards Evening.  Since then many other visitors have been to see the new gallery space and show their support for the project.  St Botophs primary school visited with 60 of their students to support their project work on the theme of ‘Sculpture’.   The first exhibition is now coming to an end but there will be plenty of opportunities during the course of the year to come and see other exciting events.  The gallery will feature a rolling programme of student’s work, local and national artists, and community arts groups.  Anyone interested in using the gallery to exhibit work should contact Hema Mistry, Gallery Manager, on 01509 504511.
